NISSAN’s Next Generation Fuel Cell Stack>>>>

In this blog entry I’m gonna talk about the Nissan’s next generation fuel cell stack, that is going to hit the floor to attract the users. Nissan Motor has introduced Fuel Cell Stack for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles.

This Fuel cell Stack is claimed capable to offer 2.5 times greater power density to its 2005 model and is now the world’s best 2.5 KW per liter power density fuel cell stack. Owing to the Membrane Electrode Assembly, separator flow path and reduction of platinum and parts variation usage, Nissan Fuel Cell Stack’s production cost has been reduced to one sixth of the 2005 model.

Now Nissan is confident that using the 2011 version of Fuel Cell Stack, that developed using a compact and durable hydrogen fuel-cell stack will be capable of supply ample power and supply sufficient hydrogen power to the vehicle.
The 2011 version of Fuel Cell Stack will be capable to convert taxis, delivery vans and other commercial city-specific fleets into zero-emission fuel cells and cut the manufacturing cost by 75 percent.

Moreover, molding of the supporting frame of the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) will be going integrally with the MEA’s single-row lamination and resulted in further reduction in the dimension by more than half compared to conventional 2005 models.

By this it is clear that Nissan is looking for further reduction in the dimensions. And they have made great strides in two critical areas that are power density and cost. Their 2011-model fuel cell stack delivers power density at 2.5 kilowatts per liter, 2.5 times better than their 2005 model, says sources.

The new stack is also a lot smaller that can now pack 85 kilowatts of power in a 34-liter package. By this they’ve brought the production cost down by 85 percent close to meeting the U.S. Department of Energy cost target for 2010 which is a widely referenced benchmark.

This new 2011 version of Nissan’s Fuel Cell Stack will exceed all the benefits existed on previous versions including cold-weather tolerance, enhanced molding technique, compact size and longer travel distance. It has confirmed the readiness to supply the Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles anytime soon with the latest Fuel Cell Stack.

Yet, no word about the pricing and availability in U.S remains mystery. I think the cost of Fuel Cell Stack will be less because the cost incurred for production is less so remains affordable and reasonable. Enjoy by having a long drive with Fuel Cell Stack….
